Article by Ru'a Rimawi, Bram Wispelwey, and Navid Madani describing major challenges to cancer care across the Occupied Palestinian Territories, covering pre-war structural barriers, struggles with patient referrals across fragmented administrative areas, medical supply shortages, financial challenges facing patients and institutions, and the compounding impact of the War on Gaza on oncology care as of 2024. The article documents both pre-existing systemic failures and their acute intensification under conditions of active bombardment and siege, providing a comprehensive before-and-during overview of the barriers to cancer treatment in the OPT. Recommended for researchers working on Palestinian public health, health inequities, and the oncology-specific dimensions of the humanitarian crisis, as one of the few articles providing a comprehensive pre-war and wartime account of the structural and acute barriers to cancer care across the OPT.
