Euronews report covering US President Trump's January 29, 2026, claim that Hamas would give up its weapons, a claimed major step forward in the fragile Gaza ceasefire. On January 14, 2026, the US announced the launch of Phase Two of the President's 20-Point Plan, moving from ceasefire to demilitarization, technocratic governance, and reconstruction. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff appeared confident Hamas would surrender its weapons, but Hamas had not confirmed the disarmament. No details were offered on who would serve on the transitional Palestinian administration that would govern Gaza. Useful for researchers studying the political dimensions of Phase Two of the ceasefire plan and the US position on Hamas disarmament, demonstrating the gap between US officials' public statements and the positions of Hamas and Israel on the ground.
