Report by by the Institute for Policy Studies and the Transnational Institute argues that attempts to thwart movements, like that of Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS), press organizers to face the challenge of "shrinking spaces," entailing a series of repressive tactics such as the imposition of legal barriers, cutting off access to public spaces, and threats to curtail political work. Taking the BDS movement as a case study of "shrinking spaces," the authors cover why BDS campaigns face high levels of repression, the movement's successes, and the use of repressive legislation in the US aimed at weakening the movement and criminalizing BDS activity. This source is valuable for research on the BDS movement, pro-Palestinian censorship, campus activism and repression, freedom of speech, and anti-BDS efforts in the US, Europe, and Israel.
