Stories of Death, Displacement and Remarkable Courage

Book review in the Electronic Intifada by Rod Such reviewing 'Displaced in Gaza: Stories from the Gaza Genocide,' edited by Yousef M. Aljamal, Norma Hashim, Zoe Jannuzi, and Noor Nabulsi (Haymarket Books, 2025). The book collects 27 personal testimonials from Palestinians enduring the genocide in Gaza, gathered in May 2024 and commissioned by the Hashim Sani Center for Palestine Studies at the University of Malaya in partnership with the American Friends Service Committee. The review situates the testimonials as both evidence of Israeli crimes and as acts of Palestinian resistance and resilience, with the reviewer noting that the carnage described continued for more than a year after the testimonials were collected and is still ongoing despite the ceasefire. Recommended for researchers and educators working on Palestinian testimony and literary responses to the genocide, as this anthology and review represent one of the most important Palestinian first-person accounts of the genocide and the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe during the ceasefire period.
