Article by Neve Gordon explains how Israel suppresses public commemoration of the Nakba through laws that penalize institutions marking the 1948 displacement of Palestinians. It argues that Israel’s strategy is not to erase the Nakba from memory but to control its narrative, allowing state-sanctioned violence to perpetuate its legacy while preventing Palestinians from publicly memorializing it. This source is valuable for research on Palestinian collective memory, the Nakba Law, Palestinian citizens of Israel, settler colonialism, and the ongoing Nakba.
