Featured image depicts Palestinian and Jordanian prisoners of war (POWs) captured by the Israeli army as a result of the 1967 war. For Palestinians and Arabs, the 1967 war is known as the Naksa, an Arabic term for "setback," to describe the immense losses as a result of this war: between 300,000-400,000 Palestinians were ethnically cleansed; Israel instituted its occupation of East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula, and the Syrian Golan Heights. In addition to Arab troops taken as POWs, it also took Palestinians prisoner during this war, as captured in the featured image. From this point onwards, Israel has instituted a system of mass incarceration of Palestinians. Between 1967-2017, Israel held over 800,000 Palestinians in Israeli military detention, often in administrative detention, held without trial or charge.
