Webinar recording of introductory session of Jadaliyya's Gaza in Context: A Collaborative Teach-In Series, which provides an academic introduction to Gaza, analysis of events in Gaza following October 7, 2023, and Israel's genocidal War on Gaza. This first session pairs a documentary segment tracing Gaza's history — from the Nakba and Naksa through the First and Second Intifadas, the 2006–07 Hamas takeover, and the wars on Gaza in the years that followed — with a scholars' roundtable on teaching Gaza in the present crisis, moving beyond the immediate moment to the structural history of settler colonialism, apartheid, and the blockade. Co-organized by 15 institutions. Features Bassam Haddad, Rochelle Davis, Lisa Wedeen, Rana Barakat, Adel Iskandar, Ziad Abu-Rish, Beshara Doumani, Maya Mikdashi, Sherene Seikaly, Alireza Doostdar, and Noura Erakat. This teach-in is valuable for students and educators seeking scholarly context on Gaza and is a useful entry point into the wider Gaza in Context teach-in series.
