Each year, approximately 700 Palestinian children are arrested and tried in Israeli military courts, with the vast majority being subjected to violence and in many cases, torture. In the US, the No Way to Treat a Child Campaign aims to end US military aid to Israel that is used for the detention and abuse of Palestinian children by the Israeli military. Through the campaign, legislation was introduced in 2017 (and reintroduced in subsequent sessions of Congress) by Representative Betty McCollum (D-MN) that calls for an end to US military aid that is used in the military detention, abuse, and torture of Palestinian children. While this piece of legislation has not been brought to a vote, it is a historic attempt to bring a piece of proactive legislation safeguarding Palestinian rights to a vote in Congress.
