BDS

In 2005, Palestinian civil society organizations issued a call to the world, asking peoples and governments to withhold support for Israel given its violations of international law and oppression of Palestinians. The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement stemming from this 2005 call is part of a longer history of Palestinian and Arab appeals to boycott and divest from Israel. It is modeled after the South African anti-apartheid movement. Palestinian civil society organizations ask that the international community boycotts, divests from, and sanctions Israel until it abides by its obligations under international law. BDS campaigns have focused on upholding the call in various arenas including consumer, academic, and cultural boycotts, as well as campus, labor union, and faith community divestment.
